Sat. June 5th Rocket Launch 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Weather permitting (no rain or high wind) Mike Hagood (Scout Leader-Troop 1430) will be leading the Pack 1148 rocket launch at the dog park off of Old Lee Road on Saturday, June 5th from 9am to 12 noon.
Start building early. Your rocket should be completed several days before the event to allow the glue to dry properly. Otherwise, fins etc will come off during launch. At that point, who knows where the rocket will go. At most hobby stores - there are ready to go rocket models as well as kits that can be built. For the kits - please allow at least a week to build - don't wait until the last minute to build the rocket. The rocket launch is a lot of fun for both cub scouts and siblings to participate in. Please note that there is no sign-up for this event - just show up on Saturday w/ rocket in hand (BYOR).
The rocket motor specifications should be A8-05 or A8-03. Also, a B6-05 would be ok as well. I would discourage the use of a “C” engine. Some of them were not retrievable and were launching too high. The A8, B6 part of the specification refers to the power of the motor. “A” is less powerful than a “B” The “-03” or “-05” is the delay before the parachute charge is ignited to deploy the parachute. The“-00” is used for a booster engine in multi-stage rockets. No delay before the charge is fired. We won’t be using multi-stage rockets, so no one should show up with one of those.
